My husband and I are taking my mom and our 4 children to Budapest to see her aging brother and the place she grew up as her Misogi. From there we go to Paris (bucket list for me) and to Chamonix France to ski in the French Alps with my husband and 4 sons. It is a huge and daunting task (lots of details and language barriers), but a dream of ours to ski there. On the surface, this may not "seem like" a typical Missogi however, it is a far grater challenge for me to accomplish this than simply taking tennis lessons and practicing. One of the biggest challenges I face in this endeavor is improving my health and fitness. The tennis, although certainly a key component and clear motivational factor, is the least of it, becoming lean, strong and healthy is key. My daughter competes in tennis at a D1 collegiate level and she and her hitting partners are either highly skilled in Tennis (older ex-professionals) and/or in generally great physiacal condition and possess amazing tennis skills. I am tired of "sitting on the sidelines" as I watch her hit with others during our family vacations. I want to BE IN THE GAME. In order for me to achieve my Missogi I will need to radically alter my mindset and routine: 1. I WILL improve my tennis game by: a. working with my coach weekly. b. playing a practice match (or equivalent) weekly. 2. I WILL lose 50 lbs. by: a. Radically changing my eating habits by focusing on eating to live and losing the addiction of emotional eating which has guided my choices my entire life food is my fuel. b. I WILL begin life daily with a combination of fruit till noon and intermittent fasting. c. I WILL switch to a primarily vegetarian/pescatarian diet. 3. Improve my physical health and stamina: a. I WILL engage a minimum of 30 minutes a day on my treadmill. b. I WILL complete the W.O.D. at least 5 days per week. BACKGROUND: I began formulating this Missogi during a recent Kevins Rule trip this past December while on a family cruise with siblings, kids and cousins. Initially while trying to figure out my Missogi it was going to be focused on health related goals, losing weight etc., yet again! On this front, I began eating more focused on the cruise and was on the treadmill on the ship almost every day. As I finished vacation back on land, while sitting court-side (yet again) watching my daughter play tennis with two men, both older than myself by at least few years (one an ex-collegiate player and the other an ex-professional squash player), finding myself wishing I were not just watching but out there as well, I began formulating this Missogi which is now as clear as anything I can see. I know it will be life-changing on so many levels. I will never forget 2023, the year I took back my health, created yet another bond with my daughter and reset my life on the right track to live healthy and as vibrantly as possible for the next 50 years! | Health and Fitness and Sports Goals | 12/1/2023 |
